THE RUNDOWN | Hezbollah threatened to retaliate for Israel's strikes on their members and facilities. Now, Israel's forces are waiting on the border for a response. But will it come? What's at stake? Our Jonathan Regev reports.

Story:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Hezbollah and Iran to "be careful" as forces in Israel's north braced for a possible reprisal attack after a series of alleged Israeli strikes.

Speaking at an event in Jerusalem, Netanyahu said he had heard Nasrallah's remarks promising to retaliate for what Hezbollah says was an Israeli drone attack in Beirut earlier this week.

"I heard Nasrallah's words. I suggest Nasrallah calm down," the Israeli premier said. "He knows very well that the state of Israel knows how to defend itself well and how to repay its enemies."

"I want to say to him and Lebanon, which is hosting this organization that aims to destroy us, as well as to [Iranian Revolutionary Guards chief] Qasem Soleimani: Be careful with your words and even more cautious about your actions."

Meanwhile, Israeli forces in the north were bracing for potential retaliation from Hezbollah or other Iranian allies in the region following a series of attacks in Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon that have been blamed on Israel.

Following an operational assessment, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) on Tuesday decided to restrict the movement of military vehicles along the northern border, local media reported.

Netanyahu has vowed that Israel is ready to use "all means necessary" to defend itself against Iranian threats after the army launched strikes in Syria on Saturday to prevent what it said was an impending attack.

Hours later, Lebanon's army said two Israeli drones had violated Lebanese airspace over south Beirut, and the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement said one damaged a media center it runs.

Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah said incident Beirut marked the first such "hostile action" in Lebanon since a 2006 war between his group and Israel.

Lebanese President Michel Aoun called it a "declaration of war".
