Aging is a life process that everyone has to go through and it can be scary. Both men and women are trying to hide it or buying their way to youth. While it is inevitable, we can most certainly control the way we age. Here are 5 ways to start looking and feeling young again.

1. Getting sufficient sleep
Sleep is one of the most important keys to anti-aging. It plays a role in helping the brain to repair as well as flushing out toxic waste and repair our DNA. Most importantly, it helps to reproduce cells that form myelin, which is an integral part of our nervous system. Therefore, sleep sharpens our brain function such as memory, problem solving & decision-making skills.

Sleep also boost the production of new collagen, which makes our skin more elastic to prevent wrinkle & sagging. Lack of sleep will make the skin dehydrated, break outs & loses its glow.

2. Improve your posture
Poor posture can leads to inflexibility of muscles that decrease in range of motion and imbalance of muscle strength. As a result, it makes you more lethargy and not able to function at your best.

Start by practicing mindfulness both during standing and siting. Then, you can incorporate balance specific exercise that not only strengthen weak muscles, but also loosen up muscles tightness that prevent you from maintaining a good posture. Besides, regular chiropractic adjustment can help to break up adhesion and scar tissue that form around spinal joints, which allow the body to regain flexibility and muscle strength.

Once you are able to stay upright, you will feel more confident and energized throughout the day.

3. Clean up your diet
We can’t talk about anti-aging without first addressing our diet. A diet that is filled with refined sugar and junk food is not going to do your skin much good. You can start changing your diet by incorporating fruits that are high in antioxidant such as blackberries, blueberries, plum, cherry tomatoes etc. Antioxidant helps to neutralize free radicals that damage membrane and DNA of our skin cells.

Also, you can incorporate food with essential fatty acids, which are key elements for healthy skin. Food such as salmons, sardines, walnuts and flax seeds are loaded with essential fatty acids that are not only good for skin but also have anti-inflammatory effect on our blood vessels and cardiovascular system.

4. Drink enough water
Water is essential in maintaining optimal skin moisture and elasticity. It helps to prevent premature wrinkle and fine lines. However it is important to bear in mind that hydration should come from inside out. While it may not be easy to consume 8 glasses of water a day, one can start by carrying a water bottle and sip it throughout the day. Also, by adding a lemon or a pinch of sea salt to water can help with its absorption.

5. Clear out negative thoughts
While physical aging is inevitable, how we perceive it is totally up to our control. Constant negative thoughts about oneself not only affects our emotion and feeling, they actually have detrimental effects on our physical being.

According to a study in Personalities and Individual Differences published in 2016, being positive about aging can actually make you staying younger longer. Not only you are aging slower than those who are pessimistic, you will also feel happy and youthful in the process.

Of course, having a spine and nervous system working properly will help your body in a variety of ways. If you are functioning at a higher level, you are more likely to experience less pain, better movement and greater quality of life even as you get older.
