A short, funny, romantic video of a couple of gorgeous Puffins on Westray.
I met Puffins for the first time in 2011 on the magical island of Westray, the “Queen of the Isles” as it is called. It was a real joy spending time with them! They have been my healing therapy for a sad experience I had before visiting Orkney that time. I have never missed them since then! Every trip there has always been an escape from an entire year of hard work in my hectic city.
Any experience of Nature can bring a little more light into your day and life. It is very good for body, mind and soul. We need to take care of nature and its wildlife. We need to have much more respect for our planet, the only one we have.
It was a surprise to met this lovely couple of Puffins. I spent time with them. I had been enjoying their daily adventures so much when I decided to film them with a small camera, without using a tripod, just to have a nice memory when back home. This is just an attempt to make something funny from all the wee clips I’ve taken so far. It is the first time I have used real software for editing videos. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did when I had them all around me!
Alfred Schnabel, the amazing digging Puffin, is the name given to him by a local guide on Westray. The name I have chosen for his partner is Frida. Look at Alfred’s incredible ability to dig his burrow and his efforts to dig grass roots out of it.
Frida, instead, seems restless, concerned about their burrow that needs to be ready for the next breeding season. She knows, anyway, how to take care of him in the end. Do you know that Puffins mate for life? Alfred and Frida will meet up again next year, and year after year, in the same place and when everything is ready, she will lay an egg and a cute Puffling will grow up strong and happy!
We all hope to see them again next year! Together with all their companions!
Good luck Puffins!
