Steve Oldham brilliantly and simply shares a new idea that can help solve climate change. The technology exists, a solution is here. At Carbon Engineering, they are commercializing two clean energy technologies that can rapidly accelerate our shift to a net-zero world: their Direct Air Capture technology can deliver large-scale negative emissions by removing carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere; and their AIR TO FUELS™ technology can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of transportation by creating clean synthetic fuels – made from air, water and renewable power.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
Steve is CEO of Carbon Engineering, a Canadian-based clean energy company. He will give us a hopeful peek into the future and new technology that captures CO₂ directly from the atmosphere and synthesizes it into clean, affordable transportation fuel. Steve played a lead role in a number of ‘Canada firsts’ in technology commercialization, including the first robot performing brain surgery, the first commercial radar satellite, robots that clean the inside of nuclear reactors, and satellites that service and repair other satellites. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
