Below is the blueprint for building good credit.
1. Make sure your credit is free from recent blemishes. If you have 1 to 2 negative items 3 plus years you may be okay. If your credit is really jacked up you may have to enlist the help of a credit repair specialist.
2. Signup with 2 - 3 credit unions (NavyFed, PenFed, USAA, etc). Just grab a checking or savings account and put like $25 in the account.
3. Reframe from running your credit while you are fixing your credit.
4. You will need to establish some new credit to help strengthen your credit profile. Below are some links to primary tradelines that will help you reestablish your credit. Remember a good credit profile needs at least 3 to 4 primary tradelines.

5. After you have had the primary tradelines on your credit for a min of 4 months you can now apply for a credit card. I would suggest Chase Freedom, NavyFed Platinum, Amex Green and DCU credit card to name just a few. Keep the balance on these new cards below 10%. Do this for about 6 months and you will be ready for higher limit cards.
This plan will take you 10 to 12 months to complete, but sky is the limit after that. I hope this helps someone out there as it has worked for many people I've helped in the past.
