Join Cajun Boy (Zachary Gray) as we get up close with a very bizarre, and incredibly rare turtle species! As always we hope y'all enjoy this video! :D
The Pearl River map turtle is only indigenous to a few select areas in the southern regions of Louisiana and Mississippi. While North America has many different map turtle species, and many only live in a few small river systems, the pearl river map turtle is a turtle that doesn't get researched too often because of its similarities to other map turtles, such as the Alabama Map turtle and the Ouachita Map turtle. While it is debated whether this species should be protected by law or not, most do agree these map turtles are endangered turtles, because of their small, very fragile range.
This map turtles most notable feature is its giant jaws, that are similar to that of snapping turtles, and its pig-like nose, that is similar to soft shell turtles'.
