Home to around 140,000 African elephants – a third of the planet’s population – Botswana attracts two million overseas visitors a year. Most flock to the Okavango Delta for boat trips and game drives among buffalo, hippos and crocodiles, but a lesser-known option is a cycling safari at Mashatu Game Reserve, to the south-east. There, Cycle Mashatu – which has operated exclusively in the reserve since 2003 – has seen a three-fold increase in bookings since 2011.
