This morning on the BBC, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sajid Javid, said:
"We've done everything possible to leave on October the 31st.
"We got that deal that everyone said that we couldn't get.
"We planned extremely carefully for a no deal outcome as well, just in case.
"But because of the actions of parliament, and especially of Jeremy Corbyn, we've had more dither and more delay, and now we have to accept we won't be able to leave on October the 31st.
Because parliament has requested an extension, and although we haven't heard back from the EU yet, it's likely and we just have to assume, they will agree to parliament's request, not something that we wanted, but they will agree and probably offer a three month extension."
But, until that extension is forced on us, both UK and EU law say we leave the EU next Thursday.
And while our fate is still held in the hands of 27 other foreign powers, those devious MPs in the House of Commons continue to cause political and economic uncertainty and even paralysis in the country they are meant to be taking care of.
They, I'm afraid, are now proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are prepared to trash the UK constitution and its economy, as well as all political and business trust both within the UK and internationally in their almost religious fervour to ensure we never leave the European Union.
And in the process they are taking the majority of the electorate for fools.
Now, the prime Minister Boris Johnson has dangled the opportunity of a General Election in front of the opposition for a third time and it still looks like they don't have the remotest bit of confidence in themselves to seize it.
I'm not sure if any opposition party in the past has ever before refused to engage in a general election, let alone turn down the chance three times.
If anything shows you how strange the situation is in the House of Commons we have a minority government that has just had its Queen's Speech voted through by 16 votes with the Labour and SNP amendments having been flattened.
And its flagship policy for leaving the European Union also having been voted through on its second reading by MPs with a comfortable majority.
Not only that, the minority Tory government has twice had its offer of a General Election rejected by opposition MPs and it looks like a further offer to be up for debate and voting by MPs on Monday may well also be turned down.
Then to the opposition, they've turned down Theresa May's Brexit deal, they've voted against the Boris Johnson Brexit Deal, they've helped force a law into place that ties the government into another Brextension as well as voting against two, maybe now three general elections.
But Corbyn's crowd want to re-run two recent referendums that have already given the UK clear results, they want another Scottish independence vote and another EU referendum.
Looking on this from the outside you could be led to thinking that it shows a government in control of the situation and one that has the full confidence of the House.
Even though this government is pushing the second worst deal in history - the worst deal in history obviously being the Theresa May version of the Withdrawal Agreement surrender treaty.
Now, with Brussels mulling over how much time it will tell us to take to resolve the situation to the EU' satisfaction, the Prime Minister Boris Johnson has stirred the pot a bit more by saying that if the Labour Party leader once again turns down the offer of a general election, then the Brexit deal will be pulled.
This will have upset the internal EU27 negotiations over how much time to give the UK, the reason for it and any conditions they intend to impose.
In fact there is talk that any EU27 Article 50 extension decision may be delayed beyond today.
And while this situation persists our so called elected representatives in a so-called sovereign parliament can do absolutely nothing.
As Sajid Javid said this morning when pressed for an official statement on whether we are leaving the EU next Thursday or not - one of the most important events in UK history - all he could do was say that it's all down to what the EU wanted to do.
