"We've been bowled over by the quality of the work... ." Clare Gibbons, programme lead for the Northstowe NHS Healthy New Town, gives some feedback on the success on this community research project. Participatory Appraisal is a community based approach to research that values people as experts in their own lives. In 2019 we trained members of the public to become a team of community researchers. They spoke to people across the East of England about their needs and experiences of health & wellbeing services. The key themes raised by the community were mental health, accessibility, activities, information, community and green spaces.
This has informed the development of Northstowe an NHS Healthy New Town.
The project was led by the Eastern Academic Health Science Network with Participatory Appraisal training and support by Community Consultants.
