RTC Employees Back to Work with KCR Final Decision on RTC.
Telangana state government has asked all 49000 striking Road Transport Corporation workers to join their duties, unconditionally from the first hour this morning. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has announced this at a media conference after a cabinet meeting held in Hyderabad. He alleged that the union leaders and opposition parties have misguided RTC workers for striking work. The government has released 100 crore rupees as immediate relief to the Corporation and decided to rise RTC revenues to a tune of 752 crore rupees by increasing passenger fares by 20 prise per kilo meter. The Chief Minister also said workers’ welfare council will be set up in place and employees should be away from union activities.

Meanwhile, providing much relief to common people, the bus services began operating normal across the state following workers and employees started joining their duties in various bus depots. AIR correspondent reports that ending the hardships for common people, the striking RTC workers started joining duties at various bus depots across the state from the wee hour today. The impasse that lasted for nearly two months ended with Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao announcing the decision of the state cabinet to take back all 49 thousand RTC workers to their duties on humanitarian basis. It may be recalled that the State RTC workers and employees had strike their work for 52 days seeking merger of the state owned RTC into the Government besides fulfilment of other assurances given by the government for their welfare.

However, the Government had taken a tough stand against the workers and declared them self-dismissed stating that the strike was illegal. The workers called-off their strike after 52 days only after the High Court referred the matter to the labour court. However, the employees could not join their duties as the management of RTC did not allow them. Meanwhile, several workers committed suicide in distress during the strike. Now, the government also assured a job to one family member each who committed suicide. Meanwhile, the Joint Action Committee leaders apologised common man for causing inconvenience for about 2 months.
