The FAA proposed remote ID rules for drones enables harassment of the responsible hobbyist drone and RC pilot. The new NRPM (Docket number FAA-2019-1100) was obviously written in favor of large commercial operators with autonomous operation in mind and a totally disregard the contribution that hobbyists have had on the industry. Not only the FAA, but state and local authorities as well as the general public at large will know exactly where your drone (and RC Aircraft) is in the air AND where you, the operator is on the ground, REAL TIME. Now anyone that is anti-drone can instantly know when you launch and where you are and can call authorities, even if you are doing nothing wrong, you’ll have to prove it. What if someone wants you’re new and shiny $1000 drone? Watch the app real time, see where one pops up real time in a remote area and viola, trouble ensues. Gotcha! Well, you say, to hell with that, I will just turn the remote ID off! Well, the FAA requires that manufacturers will program the drone with no connection to be grounded and not even take off. What if you’re in a remote area without signal from your drone? Well, you’re in good shape because you can fly in a fixed site! You’re Welcome! Try getting some of those awesome videos of that waterfall, the beautiful mountainside, the soccer match of you kids… forget it! Take some pictures of the swamp below you in the fixed site, that should be good enough. Thanks FAA. AAAAAAHHHHH!
We need to comment to the FAA and see if we can get this corrected, or there will be a glut of used, obsolete drones and RC Aircraft on Ebay, cheap…
