Flow of tracers in the far field of a steadily moving object

Flow of tracers in the far field of a steadily moving object Tracer particles immersed in a fluid respond to the presence of a steadily moving object located far away from them—that is, the tracers are located in the "far field" relative to the object. The gray disk represents the "near/middle field", where the flow predictions made here are inaccurate.

The particles move in loop-de-loops as they avoid the object and then follow the motion of the object. All steadily moving immersed objects generate this flow perturbation sufficiently far from the object.
