They were started by a family who lost a daughter shortly after birth named “Alexis”. Now they help hundreds of families each year who also suffer miscarriages and pregnancy loss.
This month they are also raising funds to help little babies in a very big way.
They are hosting a benefit called the “Angel Ball” to raise money for new cameras that parents can have posted in a NICU at Good Samaritan Hospital. It would allow parents who can't be there all the time to at least be able to check-in and view their baby.
Here’s a bit more about those cameras and “Missing Alexis” from some of the group’s leaders and volunteers.
LIZ BONIS: “So when you hear about that.. women who've had miscarriages and loss ...you can relate?"
LISA LOUDEN, OF MISSING ALEXIS: "That was me 11 years ago. We lost our first miracle to miscarriage. It's emotionally to get through and having people that have been through it and understand is I think key and very important in helping women and families get through that journey."
ANDREW LOUDEN, OF MACKENZIE'S MARVELOUS ADVENTURES: "We basically provide bereavement services and support in Northern Kentucky... and the Greater Cincinnati area for families who've had an infant loss."
CAITLIN GRAHAM, OF MACKENZIE'S MARVELOUS ADVENTURES: "We had a daughter who was born on November 25th due to preeclampsia.. She was very small.. she only weighed a pound and 2.3 oz....and she lived 20 days in the NICU before she ended up passing away."
CHRISTA BLACK, OF GOOD SAMARITAN HOSPITAL: "it has the book.. lotions and tissues.. and then NICU milestones are different.. It's like not having I-V's anymore... So you kind of get those kind of things other at the 1, 2 month mark. It's a journal as well. I documented every day... that way I could keep up.. knowning what the doctors were going to say next. and then you're not always able to hold your child. I was given a rattle and a little stuffy when I first went in.. and I slept with it I was able to hold it while I couldn't hold my baby. In March.. we will be installing NICview cameras are a way for families while they're at home to log in to the web in its secured website that the families will be given a passcode and they can log in day or night and see their precious baby when they can't be there."
Here's the details of the Angel Ball to raise money for those cameras. Its Saturday, January 25th at the Grand Ballroom on East Fifth Street in Covington.
