Dr. Hammer provides tips on how to get strong letters of recommendation when applying to counseling psychology graduate school programs (and related master's or doctoral programs such as clinical psychology, counseling, social work, and marriage and family therapy). Most applicants will need 3 letters of recommendation, and in the case of PhD programs, the first letter should be from a research supervisor, the second letter should be from a clinical/helping/volunteer/internship supervisor, and the third letter is flexible but should complement the other two. Dr. Hammer talks about a strategy for identifying your 3 future letter writers, how to ensure you make a positive impression on them, and how to respectfully ask them to write you letters of recommendation.
