Queen Elizabeth has her hands full in leading the royal family. But besides having such an important role in the world, the queen still has a family just like the rest of us (though they happen to be way more famous than the rest of us). Naturally, the queen has favorites when it comes to her in-laws — who doesn’t? And there is one major reason why she will always like Kate Middleton more than Meghan Markle. Kate Middleton adapted well to the royal family from the start
The moment Prince William introduced Kate to the royal family, she fit in. She was willing to take on the royal role, despite understanding how much work it actually entailed. The couple dated for nearly seven years before they wed, but once Kate became an official member of the royals, she took on her role with poise and grace. Kate and William immediately had a full schedule of royal engagements, and though it naturally takes some getting used to, Kate was able to adapt quickly. The same thing can’t be said for other royal family members.
Kate has never become distracted from her royal duties
No matter what happens within the family or on the news, Kate never becomes distracted from her purpose. Last year, news broke that Prince William had reportedly had an affair with family friend Rose Hanbury (though the rumors were never proven true). Of course, Kate likely knew from the start that the story wasn’t real, but even still, she never missed a beat in her royal job. Kate continued to make public appearances, despite how much the press was discussing her relationship.
The queen loves that Kate is focused on ‘putting the family first’
Queen Elizabeth had a lot on her plate last year. When Prince Andrew’s friendship with Jeffrey Epstein was uncovered, the royal family had to do some major damage control. Andrew decided to step back from his royal duties and has not returned. And when things proved difficult for Meghan Markle, she fled. It shows that other royals don’t have the “royal family first” mentality that Kate has. Royal commentator Katie Nicholl said the queen is thankful that “Kate and William are doing the dutiful thing and putting the royal family first.”
Plus, Kate wants the queen to be involved in her children’s lives. She hopes to raise Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis as normally as possible, but she still makes sure the queen spends as much time with her great grandkids as possible.
Meghan Markle doesn’t have the same mentality
Meghan doesn’t have the “family first” mentality that Kate has. It could be because Meghan doesn’t have a close relationship with most of her family; she’s always been an independent woman. When things proved difficult for Meghan in the royal family, she wanted out — and she took Archie with her. Meghan didn’t put her royal duties above everything, and the queen probably isn’t happy that Archie now lives thousands of miles away.
Ultimately, Meghan and Harry were thinking about themselves when they left the family (which is still a very important way of thinking), whereas Kate seems to think about the monarchy before herself. Both ways of thinking have positives and negatives, but from the queen’s perspective, Kate will always be her favorite for that reason.
