When the DEA Really Screwed Up.... (One among many Times) And: Holding Officers Accountable

When the DEA Really Screwed Up.... (One among many Times) And: Holding Officers Accountable A Message to All People (yes, even the DEA...and the police...)

The way we 'allow' law enforcement to operate outside the law, or without accountability, is bad enough. It in in fact a direct contradiction of what holding a badge means.
Then we see how on television, cops breaking laws is somehow 'heroic' or acceptable.
But it is not.
Cheating to get a conviction may seem to have merit in some cases, but it also leads to planting evidence, lying on the stand, intimidating citizens, and driving like maniacs for a traffic violation, or holding someone at gunpoint (or shooting them) for shoplifting, or jaywalking... need I continue?
And this is just the police. What about the feds? What kind of mischief do THEY get into that never meets the public eye?
Look, here's the thing....
Anyone representing the public should be respectable and follow the same laws, but for some reason they do not.
Even when they DO, they fail to think about others, and put lives at risk such as in this video:

I realize that police are not always trained to de-escalate, and there is some idea that you need to shoot to kill. Well I disagree on that view, especially considering how many mentally ill people are shot yearly when they are not a direct threat. It is cowardice to shoot a man in the chest because he is coming at you if there you have the option for a less lethal force.
I realize that most officers do not intend to endanger the public, and most do not wish to kill somehow that is not a threat. But in the heat of battle, we make hasty decisions, which is why it is important to have more training in public relations and the mentally ill.

As for the bigger cases, The people most affected by things like 'civil forfeiture' never have their voices heard. They get their money stolen, then the cops use it for themselves.
Quite an incentive if you ask me.

Many states have enacted laws preventing this, but they are not catching on fast enough.
When people rant on about how we are becoming a 'police state' it can seem silly. It did 20 years ago maybe, but if you look around at the hardware they are using for simple drug busts, it is insane and unwarranted.
They like their toys, sure, But being a cop means more than using force. Somewhere along the line, we forgot all about what it means to protect the people.

There are a lot of great police out there, no doubt, But that does not justify all the corruption that they turn a blind eye to.
Just my two cents.

Be well
