Dr Jose Chacko Periappuram is a renowned cardiosurgeon and writer from South Paravoor, Kerala. A Padma Shri awardee, Dr. Jose is the first medical surgeon to perform a heart retransplant, the first of its kind in India. His other accomplishments include the first successful heart transplant, beating heart, awake bypass and total arterial revascularization surgeries in the State. He is a fellow at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow, and the Royal College of Surgeons of London. He also has a charitable trust that caters to poor heart patients coined ‘Heart Care Foundation'. At present, he is heading the department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Lisie Heart Institute, Kochi. Dr. Jose has authored many medical books. He has also written an informative book on heart diseases in Malayalam called ‘hridayam'. He himself has also curated a TED Talk in Thiruvananthapuram.
