When you talk about Glycolic Acid in skincare, the first thing we think is....putting acid on our faces?? Oh, no! However, Glycolic Acid is a naturally derived Alpha Hydroxy Acid from sugar or pineapple plants. So no need to be scared of this amazing hero ingredient. If you have dull, lifeless, ageing, pigmented or acne skin, this is a go to product for you.
It works by causing the natural exfoliation on the outer layer of the skin’s surface. On doing so, the skin will shed unwanted dead skin cells revealing fresh, smoother, healthier and younger looking skin.
What you need to know is that Glycolic Acid has already had numerous clinical trials which all agree how this ingredient is extremely beneficial to skin and one that you should look at incorporating into your own skin care regimen.
Who of us should be wary of this ingredient? Anyone with a very sensitive, dry, inflamed skin. Obviously Glycolic Acid is causing exfoliation and therefore anyone who already has an over-exfoliated, weather-beaten type of skin shouldn’t use this ingredient. Also if you are already using a few AHA’s, Accutane (for acne) or Retinol Vitamin A products - I wouldn’t be using the Glycolic Acid.
Finally, Glycolic Acid is thinning the outer layer of your skin and making your skin more sensitive to the sun. So sunscreen every day is a must when using this ingredient.
