HS2 is a 'vanity project' and doesn't deliver what people in the north want

Even the Channel Tunnel cost escalation was "nothing like we've seen on HS2".
Former Eurotunnel engineer and former Railfreight Chair, Lord Berkeley says he's put in a report showing how existing lines can be upgraded and can deliver improvements much better than HS2.
"The Prime Minister will have to put a paper to Parliament to present the latest cost estimate, a cost: benefit analysis and now the Oakervee Report before any permanent works can start on Phase 1".
