In this video, I talk about the trick that the egoic mind plays on you and which finally becomes a great obstacle on the Spiritual Path. I share with you one beautiful verse from the Spiritual text Vivekchudamani. It was written by the Sage Adi Shankara in the eight century. The verse goes like this, शब्दजालं महारण्यं चित्तभ्रमणकारणम्। अतः प्रयत्नाज्ज्ञातव्यं तत्त्वज्ञैस्तत्त्वमात्मनः॥ It says, talks and commentaries on the Spiritual Texts are like the vast jungle in which the mind of a Spiritual seeker can easily get lost, so a spiritual seeker should be very very careful about that, he must see that he is not wasting his time in vain intellectual pursuits, in dry intellectual arguments, rather he should focus on attaining the supreme of realizing his Divine Infinite Nature through Spiritual Practices. He must realize this fact it's only through the practice, it's only through the Spiritual Practice that he can awaken to his Real Nature. People just develop a Spiritual ego when they acquire some knowledge about spirituality. They haven't experienced anything yet, but they think that they know it all, they get possessed by the very subtle, it's really very hard to detect, so they get possessed by this subtle spiritual ego. Some people even develop 'holier than thou' attitude, they think that they are more spiritual than others. Now those who detect such behavior in themselves shouldn't take this to heart, they shouldn't feel bad about it, it's because it's the ego playing trick on them, that's how the ego works, that's how it functions, it's not to be taken seriously, it's just to noticed, it's just to be recognized, the mere recognition sounds the death knell of such egoic patterns. It's the absence of Awareness in you, it's the absence of Consciousness within you that gives rise to such pattern, so when you recognize such patterns within yourself, it indicates the presence of Awareness, it's the Awareness which recognizes such patterns, so when you recognize such patterns within yourself, it shows you are waking up from the long long dream of identification with thoughts, it shows that the Awakening process has started within you. So be careful, be alert and Aware, this has been called a hindrance, this has been called an obstacle on the spiritual path to consider oneself more spiritual than others.
