WATCH: 'The American people deserve' a fair impeachment trial, Jeffries says | Trump impeachment Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., made the case for calling acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney to testify under oath in the impeachment trial against President Donald Trump. "The evidence is direct. The evidence is compelling," Jeffires said. "But if you want more evidence ... let's just hear from Mick Mulvaney." Jeffries said Mulvaney would be able to provide more insight, "first-hand knowledge" into the president's hold on military aid to Ukraine. "The American people deserve a fair trial. The Constitution deserves a fair trial. The president deserves a fair trial," Jeffries said, adding that a fair trial means witnesses and documents. "No one is above the law," he said.

After days of arguments posed by the House managers and President Donald Trump’s legal team, followed by questions posed by senators, the lawmakers debate and vote on whether they wish to subpoena new witnesses and documents on Friday, Jan. 31. Then the Senate must decide whether to acquit the president or convict him of the charges and remove him from office. The House of Representatives impeached Trump in December on two articles -- abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
