ELECTORAL REFORMS: MPs reject proposals on independents

ELECTORAL REFORMS: MPs reject proposals on independents Members of Political parties will continue to have the option of standing as independents when they lose party primaries now that parliament has rejected a proposal that sought to bar them.

While debating a number of electoral reforms, the House unanimously rejected the proposal and others like it saying they infringe on article 1 of the constitution that gives People a right to choose their leaders and the freedom of individuals to associate.
