My Father left us with 30k debt and fled to another country
Hello Guys My Name is Anne and I am here to tell you a story about how my dad left me and my mom in 30k debt and fled to another country.
But for this story to make sense we need to go back a little.
I grew up in a normal household it was Mom, Dad, two older sisters, and me.
I was born in France and we moved to the USA When I was 10.
When we just moved life was wonderful .
As for my parents they struggled to fit in and feel at home again.
They had to do labor intensive jobs. Since all the good jobs required knowledge of English.
When we moved to America we still had house back in France. My parents hoped that they could sell it later to make more money, because real estate prices were on the rise.
So my parents hoped for a brighter future when they sold it.
A year passed after we moved and everyone was settling in. My mom worked 2 jobs and went to school.
Everyone but my dad was slowly fitting in, he could not hold down a job, everything was too hard for him or too much work. him and English just did not get along. He could not remember simple stuff like hello and how are you.
My mom felt bad for my dad at that point so she did not push him hard, thinking he needs time to adapt and kept working 2 jobs and going to school sleeping only couple hours a day.

A couple years passed and my father still could not adapt. At that time the housing market in France got high enough that we all decided it’s time to sell our old house.
Since my mother worked and my dad let’s say was still adapting, our family decided that he is the one who would go and sell the house.
When my father left . He was gone a couple months and came back saying he was not able to sell the house we were all disappointed but just moved on from it and said we will try again later.
This happened multiple times until my mom said she had enough, she told him if he goes there one more time he should sell it for whatever price he can get for it. Because the bills here were adding up .
He was not happy about the decision of selling the house for whatever he could get for it, but agreed. Instead of coming back he said he needs to stick around there for few more months, for him to open business for our family.
His trips started to become longer and longer at first it was a month or two and then it became 6 months 9 months. Yet every time he came back and invested more money we did not have into the business. Several years passed like this.
While he was back in France working on business and never helping us with money, kept feeding us lies that any time we will get all the money back.
One of the nights when my father was still in France one of my mom’s friends called my mom to tell her that our father is living quite a good life style back there and has no money issues what so ever.
My mom was heartbroken me and her where both struggling to make our ends meet here and he was having the time of his life back there.
When he came back again from one of his long trips my mom said she had enough no more trips sell the business and start earning money here.
He told my mom she was crazy that we have such a good opportunity we would be losing if he sells the business, they had a very big fight that day.
In the next week after the fight my father kept quiet and did a lot of shopping he was packing boxes of stuff telling us it’s for his business he will be shipping it there so he could sell it for more money.
My mother begged him to stop and told him if he leaves this time she won’t be paying for his ticket back. Up to this point she was covering the cost of all the tickets. He said this time he would come back with lots of money and he could buy his own ticket, and this time it would be first class.
He left. After couple days he tried to take off all the money my mom had saved in the bank while we slept and without my mother’s consent. But we were able to stop him.
Not surprisingly he never came back. My mother divorced him and hasn’t talked to him since. We still don’t understand how a person can become so rotten.
By the end of it all, my mother was left with 30k debt and a husband that left to another country and never came back.
Later on we found out from some mutual friends that he went there and was flashing our money around and some young woman fell for him. He now has another family back there.
While his first family suffered greatly here trying to make our ends meet.
Thankfully my mom landed a good job and with hard work she paid everything off and was even able to put me through college with no debt.
We later found out that my father became an alcoholic and that his new girlfriend kicked him out once she realized, he was not a good person and not rich like he claimed.
