Dr. Moraru - Decision Making and Quality Control Support during Anterior Segment Surgeries

Dr. Moraru - Decision Making and Quality Control Support during Anterior Segment Surgeries Dr. Ozana Moraru, Ophthalmologist at the Oculus Eye Clinic, in Budapest - Romania, shared her insightful experience using the intra-surgical OCT EnFocus in combination with her Leica M844 microscope with Ophthalmic surgeons from all over the world at the last ESCRS 2019.

Dr. Moraru presented a 2-years case series of the role of intra-operative OCT EnFocus for Posterior Lamellar Transplant DMEK & DSAEK, Anterior Lamellar Transplant DALK, Penetrating Keratoplasties PK and even for cataract surgery.

As a conclusion, Dr. Moraru explains that “Intra-operative OCT is known for its help in Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK), but the benefits and help in decision making steps of DSAEK, DALK and PK procedures and even in cataract surgery are less highlighted.

The results of two years:

EnFocus i-OCT in corneal transplant allows:

• better visualization (when advanced corneal opacities preclude good anterior chamber visualization ++)

• more confidence during the procedure: surgical steps and intraoperative complications management

• higher safety profile
• a “must have” tool during the learning curve in lamellar corneal transplants

EnFocus i-OCT is also valuable in cataract surgery, when some complications, such as Descemet detachment, occur:

• Reduction of surgery re-admission rate
• Reduction of surgery complications
