The tongue! Proper position and also some exercises.
Cimei Costa here with you in this channel Cimei Music.
Firstly, I wanna introduce to you a mirror. It will be useful equipment for this class, looking at that, you can follow up better what you are doing.
Secondly, I want to talk about the head. Once that we position it properly it facilitates tongue positioning.
Now let's yawning.
This exercise will help us position the tongue in the proper place.
Note that the tip of the tongue will be positioned behind the lower teeth.
When we sing or speak, the tongue moves according to the different pronunciations of consonants, vowels, syllables or words.
Here are some examples of the movement of the tongue as we speak:
A E I O U
/a/ei/æ/ - /e/æ/ - /i/i:/ - /o/ - /u/
Even the tongue moving when speaks or singing, try always not getting too out of the right position mentioned before.
For you to get the habit of positioning your tongue in the right place, you can do the following exercise:
Talk placing one of your fingers over your lower teeth to keep your tongue from rising.
A E I O U
Remembering, the fingers must be cleaned!
When the tongue is not placed right, it modifies:
proper breathing, mouth resonance and the color of the voice see:
1- Tongue positioned forward
AEIOU
2- Tongue positioned backward
AEIOU
Tongue exercises!
Every professional athlete before going to their performance has to prepare themselves by doing some warm-ups.
To sing is not different, we must also warm up the muscles for the performance.
I advise you to go to each exercise at least 10x.
1- Tongue vibration: First inhale through the nose, then exhale through tongue's vibration.
2- Put the tongue out and in.
Avoid moving the jaw, work more with the tongue.
3- Move the tongue 360º inside of the mouth, however outside the teeth.
4- Move the tongue 360º outside the mouth.
These exercises seem to be very simple, but they make a big difference in the daily life of a musician. If the muscles are well prepared, we will perform better, and also keeping them active for a longer time.
I hope that this lesson helped you in somehow!
