Halting of drilling plans in the Great Australian Bight a significant 'loss' to SA

Halting of drilling plans in the Great Australian Bight a significant 'loss' to SA Energy Company Equinor has scrapped its $200 million plan to drill for oil in the Great Australian Bight, a decision Owen Media relations' Michael Owen says is a great “loss” to the people of South Australia.

The Norwegian oil company became the third multinational organisation to pull out of plans to drill in the Bight for commercial reasons in the past five years.

Mr Owens said on one side of the debate are “the rabid left, the greenies and the popstars from interstate who have been saying this is going to be an environmental disaster even though all the environment approvals have been given”.

On the other side of the debate there are “those that say this would be great for the economy,” he said.

Mr Owen said he thought “it was a real shame” and that a significant “amount work and economic growth to the regions and SA had been lost”.
