Orbit internet 'a gamechanger' for consumers

Orbit internet 'a gamechanger' for consumers The prospect of satellites in space that provide continuous internet coverage for consumers in every part of the globe will be a "game changer" for the telecommunications industry, according to Australia National University's Dr Brad Tucker.

UK-based start up company OneWeb has launched 34 small broadband satellites into orbit on Friday.

Once it begins to be fully operational in 2021, OneWeb said the satellite-based technology will allow its users to access internet from even the most remote areas.

Dr Tucker told Sky News eventually the technology could provide speeds "as fast, if not faster as we are getting from wired networks".
