The creation of what is now referred to as “Vanilla WoW” took several years, and a lot of the very early plans for the game would end up being changed or scrapped entirely during development. A notable part of those changes were related to lore and geography - some content was given the green light to be implemented or worked on further while some ended up on the chopping block or was set on temporary hold.
The interesting part is that you will sometimes encounter references to some of this cut and “early” content when you read quest texts while leveling in Classic WoW. It could be an area that is mentioned by an outdated name or references to areas or creatures that simply do not exist.
I think it is fun to stumble upon those old references since they tell a part of the game’s history, and it is like finding small easter eggs. It is interesting to think about the possible thoughts and ideas the Vanilla development team might have had in regards to some of the cut content and speculate how the game might have looked had some of this content been implemented.
I hope you will enjoy the video!
